FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ìPAKISTAN EARTHQUAKE RELIEF EFFORTS BY EDUCATION FOUNDATIONî
BACKGROUND & INTRODUCTION
The Citizens Foundation, USA (TCF-USA) is a non-profit, tax exempt organization which supports and grants funds for educational projects of The Citizens Foundation (TCF) in Pakistan.
The mission of TCF-USA is to promote the establishment of high quality primary and secondary educational institutions that provide equal opportunities and access to education for children of impoverished areas in third world nations, particularly in Pakistan.
TCF, USA supports the concept that education is a basic human right and for democratic institutions to flourish and compete in the global economy, high quality education of the citizens is a pre-requisite.
TCF Pakistan is a professionally managed, not-for-profit organization, established in August 1995 by a small group of citizens concerned about the dismal state of education in the country.
TCF operates its network of well-managed, purpose-built schools in urban slums and rural areas in all regions of the country and serves all communities on a non-discriminatory basis.
As of April 2005, TCF has built 224 school units and a training institute for its teachers. All schools are operated under TCF management. 54 schools were added in the last academic year and 70 more are planned to open by April 2006.
Funding is entirely by individual and corporate donors from all over the globe. TCF non-profit support chapters and affiliated organizations operate under strict guidelines in the UK, UAE, Bahrain-Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Canada and the USA. These overseas donors are some of the largest contributors to the mission of TCF to promote quality, secular education in Pakistan's impoverished communities.
EARTHQUAKE RELIEF EFFORT BY TCF & TCF, USA
Although TCF's primary mission and focus are to provide education services for the needy, the magnitude of the recent earthquake devastation in northern Pakistan has driven the organization to mobilize its management resources and volunteer teams for immediate relief and rapid rehabilitation programs in the affected areas.
In the first phase, emergency measures are being carried out to procure and provide emergency shelters, food, winter clothing and medical supplies. These vital supplies and emergency services are being delivered to the affected communities.
In the next phase, TCF plans to construct 5,000 seismically designed homes over the next two years, in association with other partners and a volunteer team of surveyors, architects and engineers. Each home is estimated to cost $ 7,000.
