Paul Z,

No, I only sent information on that story to the list because I thought
others would be interested and because the topic of whether one should
support a constitution within the context of Venezuela had come up in the
recent discussion between Michael L and John H. As Michael points out,
these are two very different contexts. It seems that this latest action by
Antonio is part of a shift in his politics which has been happening for a
while. I think it's an interesting precautionary tale about what can happen
when _opposition_ to _one_ superpower becomes one's focus, i.e. one
can end up supporting _another_ (rival, imperialist) superpower. We have
seen this before on the Left, most notably and recently in the period
leading up to and immediately following the invasion of Iraq when many
on the Left were falling over themselves to uncritically support the French
and
German governments.

PS on support for the revolutionary process in Venezuela and Chiapas:
the artist Oliver Ressler set a good example, imo. In his interview he
expressed admiration for the Zapatistas and their principles (see link I
sent in 5/21 post on "Alternative Economies, Alternative Societies").
In addition, if you go to his website < www.ressler.at >, you will see that
in 2004 he co-produced, with Dario Azzelliini, a 67 minute video called
"Venezuela from Below".
