Dear John,

thank you very much! In fact, I have the book!! (But I didn't looked
at it since many, many years, and somehow I missed it when looking
for this piece among Sweezy's books in my very confused personal
library). I will also try to buy your book on Internet.

comradely

Dear Riccardo bellofio,

Michael Lebowitz sent me your inquiry on Sweeezy. The piece that you
are looking for was published in the January 1974 issue of MONTHLY
REVIEW under the title "Monopoly Capital and the Theory of Value."
It was the preface to the second printing of the Greek translation
of their book. It was reprinted in THE FALTERING ECONOMY: THE
PROBLEM OF ACCUMULATION UNDER MONOPOLY CAPTIALISM, edited by myself
and Henryk
Szlajfer (New York: Monthly Review Press, 1984). My book THE THEORY
OF MONOPOLY CAPITALISM: AN ELABORATION OF MARXIAN POLITICAL ECONOMY
(New York: Monthly Review Press, 1986) deals extensively with the
connection of the surplus concept to surplus value/the labor theory
of value. Let me know if there is any other way I can help.

am writing a short paper on the interpretation of Baran & Sweezy's
Monopoly Capital given in 1971-73 by Claudio Napoleoni in some
university lectures. It touches the question of the compatibility or
not of the book with the Marxian labour theory of value.

In an interview in 1987 (if I remember well) Sweezy writes of an
introduction by him to the Greek translation of the book where he
defends the compatibility view of their argument relative to Marx's
LTV.

Does anybody know if there is some English version of it somewhere? Where?

thanks

riccardo
