I know little and care less about the specific details of the Kliman/RRPE falling-out, but I'd commend to list members the sentiments of Poirot in the attached exchange from PKT. As he says, if the result of the dispute is ensure that RRPE (and other left journals) take care to avoid the trap of becoming competing minor orthodoxies, then Andrew's determination to fight his corner has indeed done heterodox economics a favour. There is little point to heterodoxy if it simply becomes a set of competing rigid orthodoxies without real power in the profession, but with power to enforce conformity on dissenting heterodoxers. Best wishes. In particular, I would be interested to know what evidence underlies his belief that URPE tried "to enforce conformity on dissenting heterodoxers." These are serious charges and they ought not to be seconded on the basis of hearsay. I loom forwrad to your reply. regards, Gary Subject: RE: Dear Supporters Date: Wed, 13 Feb 2002 11:57:05 -0500 From: Clifford Poirot <cpoirot@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: "'mongiovg@xxxxxxxxxxx'" <mongiovg@xxxxxxxxxxx>, Clifford Poirot <cpoirot@xxxxxxxxxxx>, "'pkt@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx'" <pkt@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>, akliman@xxxxxxxx I have not seconded anything. I said Andrew had done us all a favor. He prevailed through a legal process. Perhaps there is another side to this story. I do however, personally know Andrew to be truthful. By fighting for a principle Andrew has created a degree of openness.
