[OPE-L:5615] Deutscher Prize Nominations

You may cite this message only if you do not disclose who wrote it.

Dear all,

The Isaac and Tamara Deutscher Memorial Prize Committee is seeking
nominations for this year's prize. Every year the prize is awarded for a work
which exemplifies the best and most innovative writing in or about the
Marxist tradition. Candidates may come from any intellectual or academic
field.

Since its foundation in 1969, the Deutscher Prize has become one of the most
prestigious of its kind in the English-speaking world, with the winner being
announced in the London Review of Books, New Left Review and elsewhere. There
is a modest prize of stlg.250, the winning title is announced in the press,
and the author is invited to deliver the following year's Deutscher Memorial
Lecture, which generally takes place towards the end of November, and is
often subsequently published in the New Left Review (though there is no
formal arrangement for this).

I would welcome nominations for the 2001 prize, covering publication dates
from May 2000 to October 2001.

With many thanks for your help,

Alfredo Saad Filho.
