with friends like this who needs enemies? the problem with EP is that
it is a form of biological determinism (BD). you don't even have to be
"marxist" in orientation to disagree with that.
as for the biological imperative to feed ourselves (and organize
production accordingly) even that is not universal (as required by
positing something as true for the whole human race), since some humans
kill themselves via an act of suicide. where is the biological
imperative in that? of course, EP has conjured up the idea of a suicide
gene, but it didn't wash.
there is just no evidence that any biological state, including a "state
of the brain", gives rise to a particular idea (a mental state) or
content of mind. EP doesn't grasp any of this, partly because its
practitioners don't have a clue about (dialectical) thought and, given
their political outlook in general, don't care to.
