Let's imagine ...

In the USA, the Baptist Ministers' Convention is the supreme authority 
in the land.

It chooses a Baptist minister to be the Supreme Leader of the Armed 
Forces of the country. All Baptist/Fundamentalist militias report to him.

The Baptist Ministers' Convention also allows elections every five years 
to elect a President. Each party must be headed "by a devout 
Christian... A deeply religious man..." who is vetted by the Baptist 
Ministers' Convention.

Imagine that there are three parties in the US (yes... that sounds 
really weird): the Progressive Baptist Party, The True Baptist Party and 
the Baptist Party.

Imagine that the Baptist party gets more votes in two states than there 
are voters. That's a problem.

Imagine that in eleven other states, the combined electorate of the  
Baptisit Party was announced to be equal to ALL the votes of the 
Progressive Baptist Party AND 30% of the vote of the True Baptist Party, 
even though, 5 years earlier, the True Baptist Party and the Progressive 
Baptist Party had together polled 60% of the vote...

Imagine that the leader of the  Baptist Party advertised himself as a 
nationalist, one intent on re-establishing a strong and fearless nation, 
sovereign and independent. He promises to cater to the needs of the 500 
000 Baptist Commandos injured in the last war (most of them through 
Iraqi chemical attacks on Iran). Those patriots feel betrayed by the State.

Imagine that being non-Baptist means you will never become a doctor, or 
a civil servant, or a teacher, or a policeman, or a soldier, or a 
businessman (business licences or given by the Baptist Convention).

Imagine that being an atheist, a homosexual or someone who believes in 
evolution carries the death penalty.

Welcome to Iran.
