Re: [Marxism] WWP: Iran: What Fraud? [retry]
Come on, have we become, have we always been this schematic, formal,
linear, one-dimensional? I guess, given the condition of Marxism in the US,
the answer must be "yes."
1. Are the events in Iran separate, apart, distinct from the international
economic contraction? If you answer "yes," don't bother reading further.
As a matter of fact, don't bother with anything.
2. If you answer "no," if this struggle is triggered by the worsening
economic conditions, then ask yourself how do you expect the social struggle
precipitated by this distress to exhibit its initial manifestations in a
society dominated by religious orthodoxy? Do you expect it to spring
full-grown from the forehead of Marx, Lenin, or Trotsky?
Clearly, the first "actors" on the stage are going to be the "volatile"
elements of youth, students, women, those who have bumped up most often
against the restrictions of the theocracy. And just as clearly, these
forces may and will initially articulate demands of "classic" bourgeois
democracy and liberalism.
3. Are "more capitalist" forces at work trying to take advantage of the
situation? Of course. What do you expect the bourgeoisie to do? And so
what?
4. Is the current "Green" drapery of the protest the final, ultimate color,
organization, and content of the conflict? Not unless Marxists abandon the
field, and in a sectarianism that is truly sectarian, fail to engage the
protest, and agitate around the real source of the conflict and its
essential resolution.
