Irving Adler was certainly one of the
luckier people who got purged from
the teaching profession during
the McCarthy period, since he
was able to move on to a successful
career as a writer of popular science
and mathematics books, and he was
also able to become an academic.
I remember as a kid reading some
of his books like his,
*Thinking Machines: A Layman's Introduction
to Logic, Boolean Algebra, and Computers*,
and *The Elementary Mathematics of the
Atom*, which was about quantum mechanics,
as well as other books by him.
