Re: [Marxism] scientology

Prosecuting Scientology is a political sideshow.  It's a new,  weird religion
and an easy mark.

Most people view it as an annoying cult that is a money-vacuum for its
members.  Like other wacko new religions it calls on it members to devote a
great deal of time to it.

I think that Scientology should not be prosecuted as a religion, any more than
any other religion.  Unlike many other religious movements it does not look at
the lower strata of society for support, instead it looks to the upper income
soft-headed types.

hi everybody,

I'm French. Too bad, many people would say. But wait.

French media have been going on about the following issue for over a
week : should scientology be banned in France ?
Today, the top prosecutor (I don't know the US equivalent but it is a
super-District Attorney ???) of the French Republic asked for "the
dissolution of Scientology, or other entities controlled by it, on
grounds of fraud, embezzlment and practising medecine without proper
licence".
The backlash is starting, with many high-profile US "stars"  accusing
France of religious descrimination.

What do you make of all this ?
