[Marxism] the myth of MKO Abiola and the June 12 revolution in Nigeria



Yesterday marked the sixteenth anniversary of "June 12", in Nigeria. This
was the elections that MKO Abiola (presumably) won. It was annulled by the
military government, resulting in a six-year 'national democratic
revolution'. The mainstream Left and opposition forces in the country have
mystified that period in our history and the role of its symbol; MKO Abiola,
the ITT Chief in Nigeria who had sponsored two military coups earlier and
would die rather mysteriously in prison in 1998 after meeting with top US
officals trying to convince him to renounce the June 12, mandate.
