I would like to stress the actually cetral issue here, which is not the
"indigenous" character of the protests but the fact that García is
violating the Peruvian constitution and previous arrangements in the
Peruvian Congress to serve the interests of the US corporations.
The killed were not killed becuse they were "indios" (though reactionary
and racist rhetoric will stress this, as if it was a derogative
explanation). They were killed because they were PERUVIAN CITIZENS
PROTESTING AGAINST THE VIOLATION OF THEIR RIGHTS AS PERUVIAN CITIZENS.
This may well become the beginning of the end for García.
