And don't forget the role that ex-leftists including
ex-Marxists played in building the right-wing
in the US. Where would the late Bill Buckley
have been without the assistance of people
like James Burnham, who was for years
one of his closest advisors, and Max
Eastman? And don't forget that
most of the original neocons were
ex-socialists or ex-liberals.
The fact is Obama probably
has read people like Zinn or
Chomsky, and for all we know,
perhaps even a book or two
from Verso or Monthly Review
Press. Big f--in deal.
And the same could be
said of Bill Clinton.
I remember many years
back, people getting
excited because Clinton
back when he was governor
of Arkansas had one
given an interview with
an Italian leftist newspaper
in which he had spoken
knowledgeably about
experiments in economic
democracy and workers
control. That didn't make
much difference concerning
the kinds of policies
he pursued as president.
