For the less technically savvy, it's worth pointing out that many torrents will 
download a video file that's meant to be played on a computer (in this case a 
file called "The Cranes Are Flying.avi") which you can play with Windows Media 
Player, or the free software VLC (available http://www.videolan.org/vlc/).  
This tends to limit viewing to people sitting in front of a computer.

Sometimes, you will find torrents for larger files (about 4 gigabytes) with the 
extension .iso  These are actually CD or DVD images meant to be burned directly 
to a writeable disk, which should be playable on most DVD players.

It's possible to convert video files (.avi, .wmv, .mp4, etc.) to disk images to 
make DVDs, but that takes extra work and there is always some loss in picture 
quality.
