[Marxism] North Korea's Real Crime
Michael, I think you may have a fairly one-sided view of the science
involved. It's primarily a physics experiment one the spin-offs *may* be
the ability to develop computer modeling for weapons tests. But that is
not its primary reason and the paragraph from the article notes this:
"He said that NIF, if successful, would help keep the nation’s nuclear
arms reliable without underground testing, would reveal the hidden life
of stars and would prepare the way for radically new kinds of power plants."
This is why it's under DoE and not DoD administration. As the project
director noted: "“If fusion energy works,” he said, “you’ll have, for
all intents and purposes, a limitless supply of carbon-free energy
that’s not geopolitically sensitive. What more would you want? It’s a
game changer.". Exactly.
All science has some military spin-off. It's our job to move such
technology out from the Forces of Darkness (Military) to the
transparent, life-giving sunlight.
David
