Say, are you the Michael Smith who is an attorney who wrote the book Memoirs of 
a Movement Lawyer I think it was called?  I saw part of an interview with you 
on YouTube about it which was excellent.  After working as a blue collar worker 
for about twenty years, mostly in the Alaska commercial fisheries, I returned 
to school as a law student in the Bay Area in the mid-90s and have been 
practicing law now for going on ten years, mostly as a contract public defender 
on the North Coast of CA, a job that's gotten me over 50 jury trials under my 
belt.  I'd love to talk shop with you about this from a progressive 
perspective.  The California Public Defender Assoc is a pretty good outfit in 
that regard, in an innatentive moment I sometimes think their CLE conferences 
are "party" events from the old days.
