It would be a lose-lose proposition for the ISO, and could even be
deadly to its existence as a trend in American politics. Every group
which has joined Solidarity except for the first two, the IS and
Socialist Unity, have basically dropped out of the organization and
pretty much left politics altogether.
Furthermore, Solidarity's politics should be anathema to any
revolutionary group, like the ISO. Solidarity plays the same role for
the Greens that DSA plays for the Democrats. Hell, the left wing of
Solidarity (outside the dual members with the Socialist Party) party
the same social democratic politics of the SPs right wing. If any
group ever deserved the terms "opportunist" and "economist,"
Solidarity is it.
Also, as ossified, sectarian, and intolerant as the Solidarity
leadership is, they've got nothing on the ISO, as noted by Mark Lause.
I've been in Solidarity twice. Never again. The only good thing I can
say about the organization is that Paul Le Blanc doesn't take an
active role in it, so he's relatively unsullied by it. Other than
that, it's a sectarian, social democratic organization masquerading as
an open-minded revolutionary group.
