Re: [Marxism] From the Department of Homeland Entrapment

This may actually be a rare case NOT involving entrapment; I'll reserve
judgment on that pending more facts. I found the more interesting aspect of the
case to be the charge - "conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction." Who
knew that a car bomb was a "weapon of mass destruction"? No wonder the U.S. was
so sure there were WMD in Iraq.

As far as the released detainees "returning" to "terror", I offered my readers
a pop quiz:

http://lefti.blogspot.com/2009/05/guantanamo-recidivism.html

What is wrong with this headline? "One in seven freed from Guantanamo
reportedly return to terrorism"

The answer is that you can't "return" to something you haven't engaged in in
the first place, and, considering these were men who were *released* (by
Bush/Cheney no less), the likelihood that there was one scintilla of evidence
that any of them had ever engaged in terrorism (as the U.S. defines it, of
course) is more or less nil.

Of course, the same "legal standard" (or illegal standard, if you prefer)
applies to the "return" part. According to the article, "The report confirms
that two
former Guantánamo prisoners whose terrorist activities had been
previously reported had indeed returned to the fight." So I don't know *what*
that says about the other 72 who have allegedly "returned" to terrorism. Is
that "unconfirmed" vs. "confirmed"?
