Re: [Marxism] Obama: From anti-war law professor to warmonger in 100 days
I am grateful for Eli setting the record straight here. Moreover I
consistently (well ad nauseam) warned against any illusions in Obama as
everyone on the list would recall. What puzzles me then is why am I
disappointed? Why do I feel let down by Obama?
Why when I read the Cockburn article did I feel the bitterest of tastes in
my mouth - that of betrayal? I suppose the answer lies in some gap between
my brain and what I hope will happen.
Whatever the case, it is imperative that we now try and take control of the
process of disillusionment that is beginning to emerge. Whatever our access
is to the means of publication etc we must use them to hammer home the
message that yet another war monger has come to town.
The question arises as to whether we try to frame this narrative in terms of
a fall from grace as does Cockburn or whether we choose the continuity
paradigm as does Chomsky and our own Eli. I vote for continuity because it
fits the historical record better (i.e. it is truer), but Cockburn's tale is
very effective in propaganda terms.
regards
Gary
