Re: [Marxism] The 2009 Indian Elections

I want to thank the participants in this thread for the information
presented, something that is somewhat remote for those of us the "West",
especially the U.S. where none of this received any coverage. I have a
few questions.

A. The communalist BJP lost seats. Is this not a good thing?

B. I am confused about the CPI-ML (Liberation). They have been harp
critics of the CPI (M), especially in West Bengal yet I understand that
they sought some sort of local agreement with them not to run candidates
against each other in some locations. Is this true?

C. Like many, I criticize the CPI (M)s policies. In fact, I stunned by
their crass neo-liberalism in the smashing of villager protests against
the car plant, and other, proposals. But the opposition seemed to stem
from the rural base of the CPI (M) and not in Calcutta itself. Has there
been a shift there as well.

D. What is the future for the workers movement there now that Congress
has solidified it's hold on the government with what the Prime Minister
is now saying a "Mandate"?

David
