Has anybody done an analysis of the political economy
of the airline industry in terms of tracking how the career
prospects of pilots have changed over time?  
What percentage of pilots who
toil for low wages at one of the small regional
airlines are able to move on to jobs with the major
carriers, which still offer high salaries and benefits?

I would imagine that deregulation has had a major
impact on the career paths of professional pilots
since its inception over thirty years ago, but
has anybody studied this in detail?
