=============================
The Chinese revolution accomplished the "bourgeois-democratic tasks" of
national independence, land reform, industrialization, and a general rise in
the material and cultural standards of the people. It achieved these goals
through the destruction of the KMT army and the elimination of the landlord
and capitalist classes. These were historic achievements.

The post-Mao regime concluded - under pressure of the capitalist world
market and the failure of the Soviet and Chinese revolutions to spread to
other large countries - that China's further development in this context
required the widespread restoration of private ownership, financial and
trade relations with the advanced capitalist economies, the dismantling of
many state enterprises and social programs, and the very gradual
introduction of Western ideological, legal, and political norms which could
subvert it's authority.

The Soviet anticapitalist system lasted roughly seven decades, the Chinese
anticapitalist system three or four. This isn't a significant difference in
terms of historical time.
