Microsoft has a free software add-on (must be on their site somewhere
-- probably Word-related stuff) that enables you to convert Word
documents to pdf files. As I recall, once you've installed the
software, you will then be able to save the file -- and then print
out -- as pdf. I know this works for Word 2007 but I don't know
about previous versions.
Mac OS X has the pdf converter built in -- though I've had problems
getting it to make Word-produced hyperlinks active.
