I think that Hobsbawm's position cuts both
ways here. If he has not been very warm
to Irish nationalism, it is also the case
that he is not very friendly to Zionism either.
I suspect that his hostility towards Zionism
may have as much to do with his views concerning
nationalism in general as does his coolness
towards Irish nationalism.

I have never denied Hobsbawm´s erudition. But I have always had an alert
eye on his things.

Maybe because he obtained all that was denied to Deutscher, who knows?
