To say the nation is MERELY an idea is like saying that the processes
of capitalist production, distribution and appropriation are merely
the product of capital's ideological fetishization -- rather than the
reverse.
The ideas of nations are products of real struggles by ruling classes
over the legal, moral, cultural, linguistic, territorial, etc. right
to carry out production and commerce on a particular territory.
Obviously the ideas and the reality evolve over time, and not always
in synch.
