A good Marxist starting point for understanding how the nation is a
social construct (of the modern time period) is Benedict Anderson's
"Imagined Community." Also see Eric Hobsbawm and Terrance Ranger's "The
Invention of Tradition." However, a social construct is much more than
a mere idea. It's a internalized lived practice.
