Re: [Marxism] Andrew Jackson: slave-owner and Indian killer--the same merry-go-round

This is the great paradox of two-party politics, which really comes
out of this period.

Each contains something to attract the attractable in terms of
rhetoric or constructed image. And it also defends things that are
totally indefensible, which gives the other party something tangible
to criticize. Anyone can find the right one to fit their family's
traditional consumer choice...

PS: This morning, I was listening to "the Same Merry-go-round" from
the 1948 Wallace campaign, even as I was reading these things on
Jackson...

THE SAME MERRY-GO-ROUND

The donkey is tired and thin.
The elephant thinks he'll move in.
They yell and they fuss
But they ain't fooling us
'Cause they're brothers under the skin.

REFRAIN:
It's the same, same merry-go-round.
Which one will you ride this year?
The donkey and elephant bob up and down
On the same merry-go-round.

The elephant comes from the North.
The donkey may come from the south.
If you look, you'll find
The donkey's behind
But they have the same bit in their mouth.

REFRAIN...

If you want to end up safe and sound,
Get off of the merry-go-round.
To be a real smarty,
Just join the new party
And get your two feet on the ground.

REFRAIN...
