Re: [Marxism] Benevolent Islam and the Slave Trade

"There are huge differences between precapitalist slavery
and capitalist (or chattel) slavery. Take the Ottoman
Janissary for example. While they were slaves, they were
also paid in cash on a quarterly basis!"

Yes... or the slaves taken by the Mexica (Aztecs)in their
'flowery wars' against rival cities like Tlaxcala, 30,000
at a time. Just so that they could be sacrificed in the
Mexica temples, every living one of them, which is one
reason why Cortes didn't find it difficult to make
alliances against Moctezuma.

Just because capitalist, industrialised slavery was the
worst, most intensified form of the phenomenon, doesn't
make it acceptable to go around talking 'noble peasant'
bollocks about pre-capitalist forms of slavery or
non-capitalist forms.

Which kind of brings us back to the 'non-capital' produced
by women in the 17th-19th centuries, in a way, doesn't it?
