[Marxism] "necessary" and "surplus" labor time
I just saw the TCM movie, “There Goes My Heart,” produced in 1938.
Frederick March plays a reporter who asks a shop girl, played by
Patsy Kelly, “How much do you earn a week?” She replies: “Fifty
dollars, but they only pay me eighteen.” I took this to be a subtle
effort to educate people on the matter of “necessary” and “surplus”
labor time, or how capitalism exploits labor and garners the value
generated by labor. One rarely sees or hears such lessons in the
media today.
