[Marxism] China's next ;eap forward
I can think of one project being developed right now
outside Beijing which has the potential at least to help
China leap forward into being just such an economic
superpower:
"The Beijing Cyber Recreation District (CRD) will become
the largest virtual world ever, with a first phase
capacity of 7 million concurrent users/avatars through
which businesses anywhere in the world can come and
buy/sell products and services online.
CRD is now being developed in a 100 square-kilometer
complex in West Beijing; between now and the end of 2010,
the CRD intends to bring 150 million middle-class Chinese
people and companies to this virtual world.
The CVE plans nine similar virtual universes for billions
of avatars; the project is intended to reclaim the value
added for China that is lost in operating through western
companies, to do what China has done in manufacturing in
services."
(From a presentation I gave to the MasterCard Latin
American Leadership Forum in Rio de Janeiro last year)
