The Strategic Importance of the Rust Belt for Revolution

It has been said that what the bourgeoisie produces above all are its own
gravediggers. This means that the bourgeoisie, in its never-ending drive to
maximize profits, is forced to constantly revolutionize the productive
forces, and along with them, the whole relations of society. The entire 
process
creates a new class whose very survival depends on overthrowing the old
order and creating a new society where the interests of the immense 
majority
are met.

This from Bill Moyers Journal a few minutes ago: 

There's a reason they are the underclass. But in an area-- in an era 
when you don't need as much mass labor. When we are not a manufacturing 
base those people that built stuff, that made stuff-- that were-- that 
their lives had some meaning and value because the factories were open. 
You don't need them anymore.

But also unions and working people are completely abandoned by this 
economic culture...

and a lot more of value in this episode of Bill Moyers Journal that's 
relevant to this message. Except that Moyers and his guest David Simon 
not surprisingly don't carry it out to the implied conclusion. Their 
framework is inevitably static, whereas their content is dynamite. I had 
never seen episodes of The Wire on HBO.
