Re: [Marxism] interesting but long article on R. D. Laing

What does it matter if Laing was a proper family man? Moreover, if his poetry
was drivel? What of whatever other biographical ephemera one wants to conjure
up? The Times article posted on this list addresses everything about Laing
except for what distinguishes him: his theoretical contributions. It instead
ignites every moral qualm instilled in us by private property (especially that
proto-racist famialism so dear to traditional psychology) to wreak an indirect
devaluation of the 'libertarian' Laing. I consider this is an act of
intellectual cowardice, if not an 'irrational, ignorant, self-satisfied &
arrogant [conservative] impulse'. Peter Sedgwick's *Psychopolitics* is
available to those looking for a more substantial critique, whatever its
own upsetting limits.

(I would rage apoplectic about this much further, excepting for that the near
omnipotent bigotry against schizos and their ilk appears as an impenetrable fog
for the moment.)
