Re: [Marxism] Yesterday's protest: SF protest
I agree with Jon. We did not expect that there would be a huge
turnout. There still is a tremendous sentiment not to demonstrate
against our first Black President. This is an undeniable fact.
But also, the American working people have not yet really connected
the dots between the staggering trillions spent on the U.S. Military
Industrial Complex and its wars; the bailouts of the bankers this
military is designed to defend at any cost; and the assault working
people are experiencing in their living standards.
The assault upon the world's working class has only one way to go and
that is to escalate. With more under-and-unemployment, homelessness,
through foreclosures and evictions. This leads inevitably to violence
in the streets and more police repression.
Our high schools are already run like mini-detention centers occupied
through police enforcement. And our youth must compete with people
their parent's age for even the most menial jobs. Families are
already doubling up!
We made a stand yesterday--albeit not as many as we would like.
But we took a step in the right direction toward independent, mass
political action and organization. This is the consciousness we must
develop and build upon.
Working together in the antiwar movement--putting aside our
differences and uniting to demand an end to the wars NOW--can set the
example for all other struggles on behalf of working people here and
in Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, Pakistan, and all other places the
U.S. bankers' army is occupying and attacking.
The demonstrations were not failures, they are the beginning of a new
period of antiwar organizing that ties the hard economic issues to
these wars of aggression against working people everywhere including
in our own backyards!
There is still only one long-term solution to the world's crises
