Re: [Marxism] Inquiry regarding Easter Rebellion
Mike -what is your son's timeline? I have in my library Constantine
Fitzgibbon's book *Out of the Lion's Paw: Ireland Wins her Freedom*.
London: McDonald & Co, 1969. No doubt the book is out of print. It is a
fairly popular type text and so is clear and easy to read. The advantage is
that it does have reproduction of some rare photos which would I think turn
into a fairly good powerpoint presentation. I can scan and email the
relevant chapters if you wish. They should turn out ok.
I also have J. C. Beckett's *A short History of Ireland (Hutschinson & Co,
London, 1966.*. He was head of history when I went to Belfast in 1960. He
was a right winger but his pages on the uprising are not uninteresting in
that he directly addresses the question of the failure or the success of the
1916 Uprising.
Again it could be scanned.
However the best and most left wing account of Eater 1916 that I know of is
in C. Desmond Greaves' great book *The Life and Times of James Connolly,
Seven Seas, Berlin, 1961).*
