[Marxism] Redbaiting on the left
Tom:
Yeah I remember attending demos of hundreds of thousands against the war in
SF
organized by ANSWER, hardly sectarian actions at all, but rather the most
massive
and visible protests against the war, actions that are to their credit and
to those who
worked with them.
Reply:
Absolutely. ANSWER also deserves much respect for never, despite coming
under massive pressure to do so in recent years, abandoning the Palestinian
cause
in the interests of 'tactics' by weaker, petite bourgeois elements within
UFPJ, etc.
Some of my most memorable moments in radical politics came as a member of
ANSWER in the run up to the war in Iraq. Packed out meetings, the sense of
purpose and comradeship amongst activists of ever background, race, and
ethnicity
were the norm in those days. As to the so-called 'Stalinist' elements behind
ANSWER alluded to earlier, all I can say is we could do with more Stalinists
like them.
