Fish starts off his essay by writing:

"Iâve been asking colleagues in several departments and disciplines whether 
theyâve ever come across the term âneoliberalismâ and whether they know 
what it means. A small number acknowledged having heard the word; a very much 
smaller number ventured a tentative definition."

That leads me to believe that either Fish and the
colleagues that he says he polled either are living
way out in the boondocks, or he is pulling his
readers legs.  Take your pick.

Perhaps worse, as an administrator, he demolished several good
enclaves of scholarship in favor of the "star system," whereby the
budget is cut to the bone in order to bring in big "names."  Makes a
big splash, though both Fish and the stars drift off to better things
pretty easily, tending to leave irreparable damage in their wake.
