Re: [Marxism] rural ny poverty
If upstate is in such dire straits the situation in northern ny state, from the
adirondacks and to the st. Lawrence valley, is no doubt much worse. I'm heading
up that way for a visit and I will see if I can't come up with some info on the
subject.
On a side note I had to laugh at the post by Bhaskar on the supposed inequity
with regards to the upstate ny prison population and allocation of state funds.
No the prisoners cannot vote, BUT if NYC was really interested in EQUITY they
would count each prisoner as 5 citizens in terms of differential aspects of
state funding per capita between urban and upstate/northern ny populations.
What a fucking joke.
Anyone who has spent any time at all out of the 5 boroughs and travelled north
of ulster county would know there are (or were) only 3 types of jobs: milking
cows and growing weed on the side; working at Stewarts and smuggling contraband
across the canadian border; or working as a prison guard or cop and taking
bribes from people smuggling contraband across the border.
Jesus. No wonder we're in such bad shape.
