   Ingrid Betancourt was captured by the FARC when she as presidential 
candidate tried to contact the FARC, as her practical demonstration of the 
opposite line to the military solution.

   Now, one can have various opinions on the wiseness nor not of the FARC's 
decision to keep her as prisoner for so many years instead of doing the talk 
with her as she wanted and then help her back into the government territory, 
but that is another story.
