[Marxism] Betancourt's halo [SIC] under spotlight

Joaquin:

Unless one thinks that
kidnappings and the FARC are Colombia's road to revolution

Reply:

Joaquin's distaste for the FARC at a time when they have come under most
pressure from the Colombian military, a US proxy, is revealing. His distaste
for
what he describes as kidnappings, but which the FARC and their supporters,
struggling against the most reactionary regime in the region, would describe
as arrests (perhaps in the same way the Colombian state would describe the
imprisonment of FARC members, sympathisers, trade unionists and leftists) is
obvious.

So now presumably the FARC should lay down their weapons and surrender to
the neo-fascist Colombian state, thus inviting their own destruction and the
destruction of the people they represent, as their development and methods,
borne largely of objective material conditions, are not in accord with
Joaquin's
schema of a proper 'road to revolution'.

This isn't Marxism; this is liberalism. Betancourt is a bourgeois politician
with a vested interest in the existing property relations in Colombia. In
her pronouncements re 'negotiating with terrorists' - and here, btw, I think
we
are entitled to know if Joaquin agrees with the use of the word terrorists
to describe the FARC - she is no better than those Israeli politicians, among
them Ehud Barak, who're making the same noises with regard to Hamas.

Betancourt can go to hell. Long live the FARC.
