Re: [Marxism] Betancourt's halo [SIC] under spotlight

Adam writes, "Betancourt exposed herself by politically embracing Uribe and
Sarkozy."

While I understand --perhaps-- why Adam says this (it was the impression one
might get from the English-language imperialist media) I don't think this is
really right. Betancourt was appropriately and understandably grateful to be
freed from captivity. But she sharply, openly and explicitly challenged
Uribe's "no negotiations with terrorists" line, advocating a policy of
national reconciliation in reality (as far as it goes) not too different
from what Fidel says about this situation. That's WHY the US "military
contractor" CIA agents are attacking her in their book BOTH as a
domineering, castrating witch AND a FARC stooge.

There is a REASON why the folks who were and are agents of the US in the
Colombian situation attack her and are trying to discredit her, and it is
NOT because she's running guns to Uribe, who is an American stooge.

As for Sarkozy, I'm not aware of Betancourt trying to play an active role in
domestic French politics. She is a Colombian political actor, not a French
one.

This is one of those situations where my day job has pretty much forced a
lot of information on me, including listening to Ingrid for hours, pretty
much anything and everything she said in Spanish following her liberation,
which I certainly would not have done otherwise. Unless one thinks that
kidnappings and the FARC are Colombia's road to revolution, there's simply
no way to put Uribe and Ingrid in the same camp.
