The news has been picked up by AP and the Miami Herald, and was reported by 
some local tv news.  

And that's pretty much it so far.  I know the area well. My brother does 
commercial real estate in destin.           
We call it the redneck riviera.  

Much of florida is in reality a cultural extension of the deep south. Parts of 
the panhandle, as well as pockets of the interior of the state, can be viewed 
in the same socioeconomic category as the grinding rural poverty of 
southeastern alabama and southwestern georgia. This is truly "deliverance" 
territory. 

At least the few news outlets carrying the story are correctly reporting it as 
a hate crime.
