defense secretary says he favors a 'modest' military presence in Iraq
after President Barack Obama set a deadline for a mass drawdown.



"My own view would be that we should be prepared to have some very modest-sized 
presence," he said.



The United States should have plans in case Iraq chooses to amend
the operative agreement that requires all US troops to leave by the end
of 2011, he said on Friday, AFP reported.



"The Iraqis have not said anything about that at this point, so it
remains to be seen whether they will take an initiative," he commented.
