Re: [Marxism] Mexico's drug war
Joaquin! Haven't you been following what Calderon has been saying? The killings
are good. It just shows we are getting to them. [sarcasm off]
Seriously, Pres. Calderon and through his surrogates have stated that the
increase in violence shows that the intervention of the military in the "drug
war" has been effective. It's a reaction and that Mexicans just needs to be
patient.
Of course, this is the same government who in November 2008 stated that the
Mexican economy was only having a "catarrito" (the sniffles).

The PAN-led government has come out 100% *against legalization* of marijuana
and/or drugs. As a matter of fact, two days ago there was a back and forth
between PRI and PAN. The PAN party chairman made a video (made public through
their web page) calling any efforts towards legalization as "defeatist"
alluding to the PRI and PRD. That may change, but that has to come with
"permission" from the U$.

Saw a couple more TV reports last night on Mexico, and one figure caught my
eye. The number of drug-related murders doubled last year, in 2008, from
2007. And in the first 50 days of 2009, they've increased by 146% in
comparison to the same period in 2008, in other words, almost two and a half
times as many.
