[Marxism] Durable goods release



Since I haven't seen Sartesian post this yet and I have always appreciated
when he does:

New Orders

New orders for manufactured durable goods in January decreased $9.0 billion
or 5.2 percent to $163.8 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau announced today.
This was the sixth consecutive monthly decrease and followed a 4.6 percent
December decrease. Excluding transportation, new orders decreased 2.5
percent. Excluding defense, new orders decreased 2.3 percent.
Shipments

Shipments of manufactured durable goods in January, down six consecutive
months, decreased $6.9 billion or 3.7 percent to $183.1 billion. This
followed a 1.4 percent December decrease.
Unfilled Orders

Unfilled orders for manufactured durable goods in January, down four
consecutive months, decreased $15.3 billion or 1.9 percent to $785.0
billion. This was the largest percent decrease in unfilled orders since
January 2002 and followed a 1.5 percent December decrease.

*Inventories*

Inventories of manufactured durable goods in January, down following sixteen
consecutive monthly increases, decreased $2.8 billion or 0.8 percent to
$340.7 billion. This followed a 0.4 percent December increase.

*Capital Goods Industries*

Nondefense

Nondefense new orders for capital goods in January decreased $1.5 billion or
2.7 percent to $52.6 billion.

Defense

Defense new orders for capital goods in January decreased $4.4 billion or
35.3 percent to $8.0 billion.

Released February 26, 2009. This report presents advance information on two
key business indicators: durable goods manufacturers' shipments and orders.
Revised and more detailed estimates plus nondurable goods will be published
March 5, 2009. The advance report on durable goods for February is scheduled
for release March 25, 2009.
