But the question is, why did the government, which maintains a tight
control over gatherings of all kinds, *allow* a gathering of
homeopathic quacks on the island?

Another worrisome fact:

If you go to the Granma International (official Cuban newspaper)
website in english <http://www.granma.cu/ingles/index.html> and click
on "Science and Technology", it says "page not found".

I even tried to do a search on "homeopathy"  the "Search in Granma
International" field on that web page. It took me to a commercial web
page, apparently!

Granma really needs to fix up this web portal, as it is the orimary
point of entry for non-Spanish speakers to get official news about
Cuba!
