Re: [Marxism] explanation of excessive alt.med postings

At the risk of being placed on moderation I will respond to your comments, only
because the topic is broad enough not to include my admittedly amateurish
musings on homeopathy, about which I know very little, quite frankly.

Having worked in the industry for 15 years I am well aware of the co-optive
tendencies of capitalist medicine. I was employed at a flagship spa which
caters to the very rich and yet at the same time is engaged in innovative
experimentation with alternative modalities, excluding homeopathy, I might add.

I am also aware of the fact that although the effectiveness of certain
so-called alternative modalities have been clinically proven to be effective
and less costly, turf wars prevent medical insurance companies from coverage of
said alternatives.

This has a lot to do with the lack of emphasis on prevention and the
promulgation of a culture which promotes healthy living. The profits made from
heroic interventions in the USA in particular prevent a more positive approach,
in spite of lip service to the contrary.

But the subject under discussion is the Cuban medical model, which, as such,
stands outside the reach of the US medical establishment.
