Thanks for the documentation on Nusseibeh's role. He is also a key
figure in Mary King's recent account of the first Intifada, "A Quiet
Revolution," in which she exaggerates and glamorizes the role of
Nusseibeh and his fellow traitors. In a review of the book in the
Journal of Palestine Studies, Joost Hiltermann takes her to task for
her glorification of the role of this crew, whose NGO/State Department
style "pacifism" is hailed by King, who totally ignores the real
movers of that Intifada -- the labor, women's and other committees
which, as Hiltermann himself documented, organized a genuinely mass,
largely nonviolent, revolt (one of sufficient size that it could have
provided the basis down the road for genuinely revolutionary violence,
but was crushed and sold out before it could reach that stage).
