Well the first argument isn't entirely wrong. I managed to get fluent in 
Indonesian in my fifties, but this was because I knew, from my experience as 
a language teacher, that I would only manage this if I was utterlly 
obsessive. So I was. Ask the poor commuters who sat near me on the tram 
every day hearing me mutter into my textbook. . I do think it gets harder as 
you age, and I think I'd find it pretty difficult now.
