[Marxism] unemployment blues (sigh)
As a result of my organizing efforts around a class-action lawsuit, I
was fired from my spa worker position last march. I've been
collecting unemployment since that time, and the money will soon run
out. I have been working part-time on my own, as massage therapists
have the flexibility of moving between the categories of wage worker
and independent/petit bourgeois professional. Unfortunately, since
most people think of massage as a self-indulgent luxury, client calls
have diminished considerably in the last 3 months. To make matters
worse, all of the big spas in the Berkshires have laid off dozens of
therapists since last fall, swelling the independent market with
additional bodies.
The amount of newspaper space devoted to help wanted ads here is also
diminishing rapidly. Hardly a notice at all. Which leaves me with the
tragic choice of having to sell one of my most prized possessions, my
vintage Thorens TD-125mkII turntable with SME 3009 cartridge and
ortofon 2m bronze cartridge. Talk about a boogie machine. It will be
sorely missed! (sob). I just placed the ad with audiogon.
