[Marxism] Are Arabs/Muslims guilty of Obamaphobia after Gaza?
Echoing Marvin's comments, most comrades here are certainly experienced and
tactically sensitive enough to know how to express criticism of a popular
bourgeois politician in political conversations with co-workers and activists.
"The art of revolutionary politics is knowing how much to say and when and how
to say it", e.g - defensive formulations.
It is distressing however, that here on a Marxism list, where we can all
"let our hair down" (those that still have some) there are some comrades who
feel contrained to criticize Obama. Why? Because his poll numbers are so high?
Because he's the first Black Prez? I think that very few people here are so
dense that they can't see the immense symbolic achievement of an African
American serving as leader of a nation built upon slavery, lynchings, Jim Crow
and
permanent second class status and the hopes that a horribly oppressed people
have for his Presidency. Yet we here understand what those swept up in Camelot
II don't and for the present won't - that he has accepted the price that the
ruling class has imposed upon him for having that great honor - he must put
their interests first, and everyone else's last. We Marxists understand
clearly what those interests are and cannot be shy about "patiently
explaining"
them to Obama supporters.
There were some on the left who felt that when a Black hack was elected
mayor of a big city - Dinkins in NYC, Washington in Chicago, Bradley in LA - we
must hold back our critique. If that's the case and we have to wait until the
poll numbers are down, we're followers not leaders, and our critique is
worthless.
I wonder how comrades who criticize Obama's critics would speak to
Arabs/Muslims - how would they sugarcoat Obama's criminal silence in the face
of
Israeli mass murder in Gaza? Are Arabs/Muslims who are justifiably livid with
his
silent complicity guilty of sectarianism? Obamaphobia??
A Muslim's Memo to Obama - Words Cannot Camouflage Cluster Bombs
clip -
"Obama's silence - and ultimately lame endorsement - of Israel's murder of
hundreds of civilians is an example of such a chasm. It is one that will not
easily exit the collective memory of the Muslim world by dint of a few pretty
pronouncements".
